GENERAL DER PANZERTRUPPEN HANS-KARL FREIHERR VON ESEBECK



Hans-Karl Asmus Werner Freiherr von Esebeck (10 July 1892 – 5 January 1955) was a German General who commanded the 15th Panzer Division in the AfrikaKorps. He was also a conspirator against Adolf Hitler.


Von Esebeck had knowledge of and was sympathetic to the anti-Hitler conspiracy. He was arrested on 21 July 1944 and spent the rest of the war in concentration camps. Liberated at the end of the war he lived the rest of his life in poverty and died on 5 January 1955.


In the picture on the left he wears is various German war awards like the Cavalier Cross 1939, the First Class Iron Cross 1914 and the silver insignia from the Panzer Divisions.

  • After World War I he was able to stay as officer in the small army of 100.000 in the so called "Weimarer Republik" of Germany.
  • In 1936 (6th of october) he became commander of the "Reiter-Regiment 1" (Cavalery Regiment 1) with armors.
  • In february 1944 he became second commander of the 17th German Army-Corps (XVII Armee-Korps).

  1. Alors commandant de la 6. brigade Schützen, il a combattu dans les Vosges dans la région Bains-les-Bains/Epinal.
    A des fins historiques,je recherche tout renseignement sur les circonstances de la mise hors de combat par ses troupes de 7 soldats du 11ème RACLH le 18 juin 1940 à la hauteur du village de Les Voivres (88)
